PRESS FREEDOM

When the rule of law no longer prevails, everyone is vulnerable in society, including media workers. In Hong Kong, press freedom and freedom of expression are no longer protected by the Hong Kong’s Bill of Rights and the One Country Two Systems after the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law in 2020. Journalists, children’s comics illustrators and civil society members are either being wrongfully detained or jailed for simply doing their jobs or exercising their civil rights. We shall not overlook and forget the unjust treatment of media workers and civil society members are facing.
The Association of Overseas Hong Kong Media Professionals CIC (“AOHKMP”) is registered in the United Kingdom with the aim to safeguard press freedom for Hong Kong media and wherever the press is undermined.  The Association is working with international bodies, including the Reporters Without Borders (RSF), International Federations of Journalists and the National Union of Journalists (UK), to advocate press freedom and professional development issues.
